PLEASE FULL VIEW!
Done purely in colored pencil.
Estimate of hours: 40-50??
Favorite part: The expression on her face.
Size: 18" X 24"

AH! Alas the peice I entered into the art show (Got second place... some really bad traditional peice won over this T_T)! My prized possesion. Most definitely my favorite peice of work I've ever done. So, you'll have to excuse the watermarks for my over-protective-ness. Well finally I have a new camera but the only part it didn't capture correctly is the texture in the skin. Just a bit too light.

THE MAKING: Detials, details... Well, It's all done completely in colored pencil (I love you prismacolor!). I worked on it obsessively at school (even ditched classes!) and at home for a little over a month. I was determined to get a peice that I was happy with in the show. Since there were none, I decided to make one. I used one reference photo for this, which is in my scraps right now. The photo is of myself for one of my senior pictures. I only used the photo to help me get the particular expression in her face I wanted. The rest of the design came from my imagination. This was the dress I was going to make for prom, in it's early planning stages. (If you want to see how the dress I made turned out go look at my desktop screenshot.)

SYMBOLISM!: As my friends may know all of my art has deliberate meaning behind it. I'll let you guys analyze it how you like! Please do! Then behind her in the background in the ring around there's writing. (Can you guys read it?) A quote from Confucious; "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."

MY STYLE: I'm really attached to this style of particular dark thick matted color pencil. The other peice I had in the art show last year... that I'm not as proud of anymore and may eventually post up.. is like this same style of colored pencil. I get asked so many times what I used and I always got that look of disbelief when I told them colored pencil.

I want to hear all sorts of comments on this peice!

Ahh... All the hours on webcam we chatted while you worked on this... XD It's cool being able to see all of it in the making, then see the finish piece, but seeing it all on webcam just... Didn't do it justice, so seeing it in person at the art show was just amazing. XD *Nuzzle nuzzle* You did such an amazing job on this, and you should have won first place! Gah! The person who did win was soo.. Boring. But! At least you won those two awards for it. XD All the details and everything... So much time on it, too! Just, bloody amazing work, love, amazing work. XD

Lovely work, Kitn. The fringes on the edges of the wings are beautifully done.. a great use of colours. First off, you did an exellent job of making her skin look smooth. She looks terribly formal, with her hair up like that. Very nice job with the dark and bright colours, as well! It really is surprising that you did this in pencil crayons.. you must have had the most painful hand cramps afterwards.

Congrats on the placing, though I know you'd have wanted to come in first. Still, exellent job. I must say that the bottom of the dress is my favorite bit, as the red and black just work so well together. And my gods, girl, that red is intense.

There are a couple minor anatomical things, but they'll be worked out in time. The hands are just a tad small, and the antennae almost appear to be switched for the position her head is in. I know you're proud of this one though, so I won't try to point things out. : )

The eyes are very interesting.. a strange effect indeed without pupils. It seems to fit a butterfly/moth girl well, though. The rose looks lovely, as well.. almost like a faded photograph. I change my mind, the rose is the favorite now.

Cheers hon, and I'm glad you're still alive.

The antennae's were supposed to just be part of the wings.. like a little strip of the wing torn from the main part of the wing. My friend Jeanine brought it to my attention that they looked like antennaes. XD Ah the hands are the only thing about this picture I dislike. They bother me very much. It was the sort of thing where the more I messed with them, the worse they looked. X_X So I left them be.

Thanks for the comment. Take care!
